The volume of water use in the industrial sector increased by 1200 km3, whereas the volume of water consumption in domestic use grew only by 100 km3 in 2000.
On the other hand, the Brazilian population was 176 million people and water consumption was 359 m3 per person. The number of people in the Democratic Republic of Congo was only 5.2 million people compared to Brazil. The volume of water use in Congo was less than in Brazil, and there was 8 km3 per person. Irrigated land in Brazil and Congo was 26500 km2 and 100 km2, respectively.
