The bar chart illustrates five activities that Australian children aged 5 to 14 years old enjoyed during their free time. The comparison was made by gender. Overall, it is evident from the chart that TV-viewing was the most preferred activity for both boys and girls.
To begin, the most enjoyable activity for children both sexes was watching TV or videos. The figures accounted for exactly same for boys and girls, at 100%. However, as for art and craft activities, the gap widened significantly, with the girls being active at around 55% compared to boys approximately 35% for boys.
Other activities such as skateboarding, bike riding, and computer games were more likely to engaged by boys than girls, standing in the range of 30% to about 80%. Interestingly though, the proportion of bike riding and playing computer games were roughly similar in comparison for both sexes, standing at 70-75% for boys compared to girls at 60%. On the other hand, Skateboarding was relatively less popular for boys and girls, at 40% and 30% respectively
It can be noted that out of five activities provided, both boys and girls equally found the pleasure of watching tv or videos, but girls did also enjoy creating art and crafts, whereas boys generally dominate three out of the five activities with the exception of art and craft.
