Overall, there was a noticeable decrease in the percentage of young visitors aged 16–24 over the period, while older age groups, particularly those aged 55 and over, saw a significant rise. The 16–24 age group consistently accounted for the highest proportion in 1983, but by 2003, the most dominant age group was those aged 55 and over.
In 1983, the age group 16–24 commenced with by far the highest percentage of visitors, at 50%, after which it experienced a sharp decline to just 15% in 2003. Meanwhile, the 25–34 age group made up 20% of visitors in 1983 and saw a drop to 12% by 2003.
Conversely, the 55+ group witnessed the most dramatic change, starting at 16% in 1983 before rising significantly to 26% in 2003. Similarly, the 0–15 group increased from 10% to 12%, and the 35–54 group grew from only 4% in 1983 to 12% in 2003.
