The line graph illustrates the changes in the popularity index of the four types of cuisine – Indian, Chinese, Italian and Mexican – in the UK between 2000 to 2025.
Overall, the popularity of all four cuisines increased throughout the period. Indian and Italian food experienced the most significant growth and became the two most popular cuisines b y 2025, wheres Mexican cuisines, despite starting at the lowest point, showed the dramatic rise over the period.
In 2000, Chinese and Indian cuisines was the most popular, with an index of approximately 58 and 50 respectively. Italian cuisines was less popular at around 40, while Mexican food had the lowest figure, at just under 20. Over the following decade, Indian cuisine rose sharply to roughly74 in 2010, overtaking Chinese cuisine, which increased more gradually to about 66. Italian food also gained popularity steadily.
From 2010 onwards, all cuisines continue to grow in popularity. Indian cuisine remained the most popular overall, climbing steadily to nearly 90 by 2025. Italian food also saw substantial growth, ending the period at around 87, slightly below the Indian food. Chinese cuisine experienced a slower upward trend, finishing at approximately 75. Meanwile, Mexican cuisine recorded the fastest growth rate, rising dramatically from below 20 in 2000 to around 76 in 2025.
