Maps comparing the structure and changes of Stockford Village from 1930 to 2010.
Looking at the maps, Stockford Village has fewer buildings than in the 1930s and extensive farmland but has seen rapid residential growth.
Stockford Village is located on the east bank of the Stoke River. The river runs parallel to the bridge connecting the northern part of the town on both maps. There were a few houses, two shops, and a post office on the west side of the road in the village until the 1930s. There was also a primary school, large gardens, and a road leading to the bridge on the east side of the village. The two large agricultural maps are prominently displayed on the first map but disappear from the second.
The map from 2010 shows the post office, bridge and primary school unchanged, although the school building has been expanded. The shops have disappeared, the gardens and many of the trees in them have been demolished to make way for other living spaces. The main building has been converted into a nursing home and other facilities. In addition, the number of houses has increased significantly, these houses are built on existing farmland and gardens.
