Band 7+: (2010) Historical objects should be brought back to their country of origin. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a growing debate about whether historical objects should be sent back to their original country. Some individuals believe that these objects belong to the cultures they came from, while others argue that it is better for them to stay in international museums. I partly agree with the statement, and in this essay, I will examine both perspectives and attempt to draw a conclusion.

On the one hand, historical objects play a crucial role in the culture and history of their original country. These objects can help people feel proud of their heritage. For example, many Iranian objects are now preserved in different international museums around the world, like the Louvre Museum. These items show the historical culture of Iranian individuals, and if they are sent back to Iran, they would definitely boost cultural pride. Additionally, bringing back these objects to their home can improve both educational and economic aspects. To illustrate this, every item has its own context, and when people see them, they try to read and gain more information about them, which results in a higher understanding and educational level. Also, these items attract millions of travelers every year worldwide. So, it could definitely boost the local economy. For example, France is one of the most attractive destinations around the world and is known for its museums and history. Annually, around 50 million tourists take a trip to France. It not only has financial benefits for the government and locals but also contributes to a better understanding of the country’s history.

On the other hand, many individuals hold the view that it is better to preserve these objects in international museums as they often have the resources to protect and preserve them. They can keep the items safe and in good condition for future generations. Also, international museums help share history with people from around the world. Visitors can learn about different cultures and histories in one place. This encourages understanding of different cultures, which is very important in our global society.

From my viewpoint, as historical objects show the heritage and history of a nation, they should be brought back to their country of origin. By bringing them back, countries might experience financial benefits and a better understanding of their own history. For example, most of the Iranian historical items are now preserved in different countries such as the UK, France, and the USA, and many people have not seen them ever. Hence, bringing back these items can provide an opportunity for Iranian people to get to know their culture better.

In conclusion, although many argue that historical objects should be preserved in international museums, I believe that they should return to their own countries because of the advantages such as showcasing culture and heritage, and being beneficial to the economy.
