If a person is caught under the influence of alcohol or drugs, they should lose their driving privileges permanently, even if no accident occurred. I completely agree with this approach, since impaired driving is extremely dangerous and encourages drivers to give up harmful behaviors.
One of the key reasons governments should introduce a lifetime driving ban on those caught under the influence is that such behavior results in fatal consequences affecting both drivers and innocent pedestrians. This happens because alcohol impairs the driver’s judgement, slowing down the reaction and they tend to drive recklessly not focusing on the road. This increases the likelihood of catastrophic accidents and dangerous mistakes. For example, recently there was a terrible accident in Almaty caused by a drunk driver who was speeding. A drunk driver who had crossed into an upcoming lane crashed into another passenger car carrying three innocent people, resulting in their death. Therefore, such irresponsible drivers must be punished strictly by losing their license for a long time, regardless of whether they caused any accidents, as this can help reduce the number of car accidents and save many lives.
Another important reason is imposing such a ban would motivate drivers to quit bad habits. Many drivers have a fear of losing their driving license, as it negatively affects their lives and work, limiting their independence and making daily life more difficult. Realizing this, they would be more likely to avoid using alcohol and other harmful substances before driving. Regarding this idea, stricter rules are being introduced for drivers, and more cameras are being installed on the streets. As a result, the overall consumption of these prohibited products would decrease, leading to safer roads, fewer accidents, and the protection of many lives.
To conclude, I believe that the individuals who drive vehicles under the influence of drugs and alcohol should be banned from driving for life, as their actions endanger both their own lives and the lives of other people. In addition, such strict measures would discourage drivers from using illegal substances while driving.
