In contemporary society, it seems as people are not judged on what values they are carrying, instead they are more likely to be favourly treated for the valuable assests and status they behold. This essay totally agree with this opinion because most people think it is beneficial to be close to men and women of power as a safety net, and it can provide them with a luxurious life-style even if it is temporary.
Having a tight friend with authoritative power, even if it is a fake friendship, can drive people to prioritize a person’s status rather than their moral values for safety reasons. Some may believe that they shouldn’t care what their friends do on their own time as long as it does not affect them directly. If it does not cause them any positve nor negative consequences, then they turn their blind on it and do what they are told to keep themselves out of harm’s way. For instance, in third world countries you may often find officals bribing their counterparts to get their families and inner circle out of trouble slack-free, and they in return do the same for them if needed. Although they inherently know they ought not to do it, they keep this vicious cycle of corruption going on in case they needed favours for their families or themselves .
Another reason for this phenomenon can be related to people prioritizing momentiraly happiness over long-term satisfaction of a clear conscious. Eventhough they know those people do not have the right core values, they would rather live in the shadow of wealthy figures and have numerous benefits offered to them on a golden plate. One sheer example of this was during the Johny deep and Amber Heard’s scandal, Amber’s friends supported her although she was repeatedly proven guilty, not only because she showered them with money, but also because their moment of fame gave them countless benefits and privileges.
To conclude, it is evidently clear that people nowadays are putting peoples status and material possessions first when deciding on who to be close too. This can be attributed to their beliefs that they can rely on their friends in authority to keep them guarded and their enjoyment of the tremendous benefits wealthy relations can bring.
