Nowadays, whether Artificial Intelligence makes learning a new foreign language excessive has sparked a heated debate and drawn public attention. Although the ability to translate exotic languages proves effective, gaining a knowledge of them is beneficial to career opportunities and meaningful social connections.
To begin with, learning a foreign language presents manifold advantages. The first interesting point is that it can provide individual and professional merits, such as improved cognitive skills and job opportunities. For instance ,employees, whose linguistic competence is ample, have a tendency of being snapped up by multinational groups or grabbing a place for overseas workplace programs offered by their companies, securing a higher-paid job and hands-on experience. Moreover, higher proportions of employment means lower unemployment rates, which is constructive to national economies. To quote an example, the research conducted by the department of the American Society also reflects a similar line and hence, it can be said that the proposition is convincingly justified.
Another factor indicating my preference for learning a new language over using AI is that AI algorithms are not able to promote face-to-face communications in that it fails to convey a substantial sense of connection and intimacy replicated by direct interactions, depleting human’s natural ability to communicate thoroughly with one another. Besides, when viewed from the cultural perspective, it is evident that computer translation lacks the nuances and cultural understanding that come with learning a language. Having a command of external languages, individuals can gain insights and practical experience into diverse cultures through talking to indigenous communities in person.
To sum up, while AI translation may be convenient and efficient, its capability to convey mankind’s unique means of communication or to capture employment chances is restricted. By adopting a balanced approach, AI advancement can be harnessed with proper management without disrupting significant aspects of human life.
