It is true that airplanes are becoming widely used as a means to transport fruits and vegetables to countries where they cannot be cultivated or are currently out of season. From my perspective, while this trend carries notable financial and environmental drawbacks, I believe its substantial benefits for global nutrition and global trade heavily outweighs these disadvantages
On the one hand, exporting crops using airplanes can have a negative impact on the environment. Airplanes today burn a lot of fossil fuels to ensure rapid delivery, which greatly contributes to total carbon emissions and accelerates global warming. Furthermore, exported produce is also affected by inflated price tags, which mainly stems from the sheer cost of air freight. Consequently, these drawbacks prevent this trend from being entirely beneficial.
Despite the above-mentioned negatives, I believe that utilizing aviation for agricultural transport is a positive development for various reasons. To begin with, this practice significantly boosts global trade by bridging the gap between local producers and global consumers, thereby opening up opportunities for farmers to make a living and provide steady jobs for the export sector. Moreover, air transport can also provide better nutrition for countries with harsh climates. Because crops can be delivered swiftly by airplanes before spoiling, consumers in these countries ultimately gain access to year-round fresh produce that cant be grown locally.
In conclusion, while transporting agricultural goods using airplanes undeniably harms the environment and increases market costs, I believe it is a positive development due to its vital role in global nutrition and driving economic growth for exporting countries.
