Opinions are divided on whether we should have all forms of advertising be prohibited. While this measures could address certain issues, I believe that the benefits of advertising far outweighs the disadvantages.
Admittedly, there are compelling reasons why people want to ban all forms of advertising. One problem is that there are many advertisements that contains misleading claims about their products. For example, during the widespread period of Covid-19, many pharmaceutical companies exaggerated the efficiency of their medicines, claiming their products to be the cure to the disease, mostly targeting the unaware elders and tricked them into wasting money on such products while not obtaining the promised results. Consequently, this can contribute to financial lost as vulnerable groups are exposed to deceptive marketing tactics, Another problem is that advertising can lead to overconsumption and materialism among consumers. Some advertisement creates sudden artificial needs, causing people to feel unsatisfied with their needs and spend beyond their means.
However, I am convinced that advertising brings significant benefits to the society. First and foremost, advertising drives economic growth, offering numerous job opportunities to individuals around the globe. If all means of advertising were banned, this would lead to a mass decline in employment rate in various fields such as graphic designer or professional marketing. Since advertising companies are gone, there would be a reduce in tax revenue, which will adversely affect the governments. Another advantages is that commercial plays a crucial educational role as to inform the public about useful and helpful products which consumers are unaware of. For instance, life-saving medical products and safety equipment can be introduced to consumers through advertising, helping them making wise decision and improving quality of life.
In conclusion, although advertising has certain negative aspects such as containing misleading claims and exaggerating information about products, I firmly believe that a complete ban is unnecessary. Instead of banning everything, governments should keep an eye on bad and dishonest ads.
