Nowadays, arguments to ban animal testing becomes more and more established. On another hand, oppositions believe that new technology can be discovered from such testing. I do not concur that animal cruelty can be justified in any way as there are alternatives to achieve science development by implementing kinder methods to new inventions.
First of all, relationship that humans have with nature is more important these days with the occurence of climate crisis as a result of explotation of the mother earth that our race has made throughout the industrial era. Instead of blindly looking to the future in the name of science, we must be able to look through our histories where there are indigenous knowledge that has been passed on throughout the generations. These ancient knowledge have provided us with immense information that we can use to create contemporary inventions. For example, The Body Shop is a global brand that creates its products according to their research on the benefits of natural and organic materials to human bodies, such as its famous ‘vitamin E toner’ that was made from water infused by roses or its ‘vitamin C facial soap’ that was produced from orange extracts. Moreover, The Body Shop are famous for its advocacy efforts against animal testing and advancing their research by observing indigenous communities way of life.
In my opinion, I strongly against the argument of justifying animal testing in the name of scientific discoveries. As I have argued, there are examples where brands can thrive in the market without committing any methods that involves the killing of animals, using ancient knowledge to invent products.
