In recent years, due to the advancements of education and society, people attach significant importance to tertiary courses. Some people believe that requiring students to undertake a period of unpaid work is a waste of time. However, I believe that while there are both pros and cons, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
On the one hand, undertaking a period of unpaid work at companies is beneficial to improve their experience. As they could learn more things in the company rather than in school such as communication skills and socialization, it can help you to adapt to the workplace more quickly than the students who do not experience that work. As the result, you may gain more opportunity to promotion in your future career. What’ more, you could become more competitiveness and skillful than other students who have not yet participated in unpaid work for once which means you would become self-confidence when you are in a recruitment. In addition, undertaking an unpaid work could help you integrate your theory with practice, making you apply your knowledge into the practice, not just in your mind.
On the other hand, participating in a period of unpaid work sometimes will waste the students’ time to study. In some college, students are very busy to finish their exam and homework. Therefore they would not have so much time to undertake a period of unpaid work. Furthermore, some deprived families cannot accept their children engage the job that unpaid for them.
From what has been discussed above, I draw a conclusion that while there are some disadvantages to requiring unpaid work as part of tertiary courses, the advantages are more significant.
