As the world modernize, personal vehicles have become accessible to a wide range of people. Consequently, people are now able to go long distances and save a lot of time that used to be spent on traveling. However, despite these and many other benefits cars provide, I believe the impact on the environment is far more apparent.
Cars play a significant role in the modern world, shaping the way people live and commute. For instance, they are now able to work in areas that are far from their homes, they have access to a variety of goods and services, and there are several industries that are generating income by providing cars and supporting services. Therefore, the rise of vehicle ownership has been highly beneficial to individuals.
With that being said, in some areas owning a car has shifted from a necessity to a way to showcase a personal lifestyle. Nowadays, everyone living in a single household has a car, and they are less likely to use public transportation. As a result, there are many cars on the roads, emitting gases that are harmful to the environment. This is unnecessary because the benefits that a vehicle provides can be shared with others to minimize its negative impact on the atmosphare.
In conclusion, while I understand the need for people to own a car, I believe its impact on the environment is much larger then its benefit for the individual, when the advantages are not shared among people by using buses and trains to offset the carbon emissions.
