Studying abroad has become a matter of great interest as it ameliorates personal development and helps students reach their dreams. In recent years, many people believe that it is a great idea for students to spend a span of time learning and living in a different nation. Personally speaking, I strongly agree that studying overseas will help scholars adapt to new cultures, expand their social circle, and approach high-quality academic environments
To begin with, supporters of this view believe that studying abroad is the most accurate way to enhance their social skills. One of the most compelling reasons is that they can meet and bond with several other international students. In other words, students not only have a great opportunity to learn about culture, tradition from others, but can also share their interests and stories with them. Furthermore, when living in a foreign country, their language skills will be improved significantly as they use it in every aspect of their life. For instance, studies have demonstrated that students studying in Europe, who interact with English everyday, learn English twice as fast as those in Asian countries. This illustrates that learning in a suitable environment will develop a person comprehensively.
On the other hand, the critics often argue that a majority of international students are suffering from culture shock and language barrier when living in a new place. It is undeniably true. However, nowadays, with more admission experiences, a lot of accredited institutions require their international students to meet academic standards to study in the school including second-language conditions. Furthermore, there are many programs opened by the council to bridge the gap between students so that no one will be left out. For example, if you want to study in National University of Singapore as an international scholar, you must have at least 6.5 IELTS to show your acknowledgement in English. This shows that culture shock or language barrier is no longer a big obstacle in studying abroad.
In conclusion, although there are some issues that affect international students, it may be sorted out completely in the near future. I completely agree that studying abroad is a wise choice as it helps a person to develop social skills, approach new types of friends from different cultures and pursue their academic pathway.
