Some scholars suggest that parents-to-be should be requires to take childcare training lessons. Although taking care of babies is one of the most important things of modern society, I consider that this kind of course should be optional.
I agree that childcare training courses, such as feeding, bathing, and medical caring, could bring significant benefits. Without attending the crouses in advance, new parents might find it difficult to take care of their children. Also, the courses not only improve parents’ skills of taking care of toddlers, but also help them recognize their new social characters. During the proces, people will gradually convert from original individuals into parents of a child. This means that people who take childcare lessons might have deeper understanding of the responsibility of parenting.
However, I do not think that this kind of courses should be mandatory. Some of the people have already known how to take care of babies. For example, teachers who work in kindergartens, and parents who already have kids. It is not fair to force them to attend training while they are already have the skills to take care of them. Furthermore, some of the people do not have time to take the lesson. Instead, they have their own method to make the caring works, such as hiring a full-time nanny, or sending the baby to pre school.
In conclusion, while I agree that parents would benefit significantly from taking childcare courses, I believe that the parents should be encouraged rather than being forced to attend the training courses.
