The rise in indiscipline among children today has become a cause for concern in our society, especially because it is beginning to have an adverse effect on our values and culture. In the past, it was uncommon for the young to disrespect elders or other elders; however, due to many reasons, kids these days do not consider it important to accord elders the same degree of respect as before.
Today, many children suffer from parental neglect. Fathers and mothers, in a bid to provide for the family, delegate the duty of raising children to paid employees or teachers, thereby creating distance between them and the youngsters. This situation often results in bad behavior, as many children who do not have close relationships with their parents are prone to committing crimes.
Children these days have more resources. Although it is important to note that children today have access to better food and quality education, this has also led to them having unfiltered access to technology and environments where they are not held accountable for their actions. Technology allows children access to platforms where the older generation is unable to monitor, resulting in a lack of respect and disregard for elders.
In conclusion, the younger generation of the past understood the sacrifices made by the older generation because valuable time was spent teaching and mentoring children about the level of work that needed to be put into service, and this impacted the way that children saw and revered their parents. But this is no longer the case in today’s society.
