It is true that the development of state-of-the-art technology over the past few years has transformed the way people live and interact. However, some people are of the opinion that children should spend more time on outside activities instead of relying heavily on modern electronic devices. Personally, I tend to partly agree with this proposal and in this essay, I will support my view with examples.
The first point given to justify my opinion is that encouraging children to engage in outside activities brings numerous benefits to their physical and mental well-being. That is to say, playing sports and traditional games not only helps children to improve their health, build strength, and enhance motor skills but also teaches them important values such as teamwork, discipline and resilience. For example, when children join a football team or a tug-of-war group, they learn how to cooperate with their friends, accept failure and strive to improve themselves. In addition, enjoying natural environments reduces stress, stimulates creativity, and promotes social interaction skills, which is essential for children’s comprehensive development.
Another rationale behind my belief is that high-tech devices also offer undeniable advantages in today’s world. Owing to technology, children can flexibly access a vast source of knowledge and educational materials anytime and anyway. For instance, many children today use social networking sites like Youtube, Tiktok or Instagram to study foreign languages, maths, or explore science in a more visual way. Moreover, electronic devices help children stay connected with others, especially in a globalized world where online communication is increasingly necessary. In some cases, letting children stay indoors can also protect their safety from environmental pollution, traffic accidents, and extreme weather conditions.
It must be admitted that the use of electronic devices does not necessarily prevent children from taking part in outdoor activities. In fact, many schools today open physical education classes and outside lessons as a part of the curriculum, encouraging students to stay active. Additionally, extracurricular activities such as sport clubs, field trips or summer camps provide opportunities for children to engage with nature and talk face-to-face with their friends.
In conclusion, this essay has highlighted two main points in favor of the idea that outdoor activities are beneficial for children’s health and development; however, advanced devices also play a virtual role in learning and communication. Therefore, combinating both physical play and digital engagement is the most effective way to support children’s overall growth.
