An unforgettable multicultural experience was definitely one of my travels within my country. Coming from a diverse background and having relatives in many provinces gave me the chance to know their day-to-day lives from the inside. Without a doubt, I must say that a small town called Yatun in the northern of Peru was the one that impacted me the most.
Immediately after I arrived, I felt good vibes in the environment inexplicably. Later, I realized it was due to the sense of community, it was strong and new to me seeing everyone thrusting and helping each other like they were one family. Even though it was incredible to see, an interaction with a young villager was the most shocking for me as he told me that he would just leave his village to study and come back to improve its conditions.
Those situations hit me hard because my goals were mostly focused on myself. That sense of community made me care more about others’ hardships and gave a different direction to my future plans. This experience awakened my empathy and love to meet new people from different cultures.
