Band 6+: Computers are now the basis of the modern world. They should therefore be introduced into classrooms, and their programs used for direct teaching purposes. However, dependence on computers in teaching may carry a certain degree of risk to students. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Computers have become an indispensible asset in the smooth functioning of the modern world. Such an essential tech would therefore enhance the teaching in schools, which makes it necessary to be introduced into classrooms. However, the risks associated with this has to be taken into account as well. This essay will expand upon the positives and negatives that are associated with the implementation of computers in the classroom as well as my take on this subject.

When it comes to the major impacts caused by the advent of computers, the first and foremost thing would be the ease of access to information at a snap of a finger. This makes the computers an essential tool to be used in the classrooms as it can benefit students a lot. Students could very well get any information that they would want to learn through the internet and there’s a possibility of them learning a lot more topics surrounding their main topic. Another benefit would be the visual learning, that is students get to understand their lessons even better where they could see animations or actual footage about the topic that they want to learn. It would also help teachers to teach students more effectively as it involves a comparatively better understanding of the subject.

While there are a lot of positives associated with the incorporation of computers in classroom, there is a risk factor that is related to the students’ dependence on computers. More dependence on the computers could result in the reduction of vocal communication with the teachers. Students have to question and clarify doubt verbally with teachers as it not only helps student with getting a precise answer but also improves their skill of voicing out. Another risk could be in the reduction of group discussion or just a casual discussion with a friend or a classmate. Students might feel like they could just go to the computers for every doubt they have, which would also hinder their ability to socialise. This also would attribute to their reduced book reading habits.

In conclusion, computers could definitely enhance the quality of learning in students but only if its used in moderation. What I mean by that is, computers are supposed to be only and aid in learning instead of entirely replacing the way we have been learning.
