With the advancements in technology, it is assumed that the crime rates will be reduced as technology makes it easier to detect and prevent crimes. Although I agree with the assumption, I also think that criminals are hard to keep inbound and they will find a way around. All the arguments and examples are explained in the following paragraphs.
It is believed that technology will help in reducing crimes by allowing the governing bodies to easily track the movement of each individual and keep an eye on the people who seem capable of conducting crimes. CCTVs, for example, not only have made it easier to record movement of every individual, but also it has helped in catching the criminals in many cases. Additionally, technological advancements like development of drones for surveillance has helped the police in maintaining peace in huge crowd gathering by enabling them to view the whole gathering while being in a safe distant spot. Drones also have helped the army in patrolling the borders of a country as well as in the war zones.
On the other hand, technology is also used by criminals to hide and evade from the police. Firstly, criminals have become smart and have been using technology to perform cyber crimes. For example, in recent times there have been cases like virtual home imprisonment, where criminals blackmail vulnerable individuals and ask them for money, until the money is acquired by criminals, the people are not allowed to leave their homes and are told that their identity will be exposed to public. Moreover, the cases of online trolling are increasing in recent times. As it is harder for the authorities to catch someone by just using the online identity, many individuals use this to their advantage and target someone to troll.
To conclude, even though the technological advancements seem to detect and prevent crimes easily, the criminals will always find a way to use technology and evade from being caught. Also, the government should impose a law reducing the anonymity on the internet, which contributes to a significant amount of crimes happening online.
