In ninth grade, I had a special opportunity to participate in an exciting school event known as “Ethnoweek,” which took place in May of 2024. This month-long occasion was conceived to celebrate diverse cultures in our country, promoting appreciation through various interactive activities. Each class was assigned a different culture to learn, allowing us to engage with a rich tapestry of our cultural traditions.
As a participant, I was interested in the experience, collaborating with my classmates to organize our assigned booth, which showcased traditional exhibits, culinary offerings, and musical performances. Notably, I took part in dancing, dedicating numerous hours to rehearsal along with some of my classmates. This effort not only enhanced my organization and teamwork skills but also my understanding components of a successful collaboration. On the day of the event, our preparation was brought out to the audience in a vibrant performance, during which I also discovered a newfound passion for dancing. Despite working alongside people I frequently do not talk to, I learned that collaboration is important in achieving a goal.
My involvement in Ethnoweek mirrors my dedication, initiative, and commitment to promoting cultural awareness in which this experience highlighted the significance of cultural exchange and effective communication. These skills are not only necessary for participation in an exchange program, but also help me to adjust to a new environment and build connections with people who have different perspectives and backgrounds.
