In spite of the various sports equipment and gyms that are easily accessible to most people in this contemporary society, it is a more and more common sight to see people in bad physical shape these days. A myriad of reasons contribute to such a phenomenon, and this essay will examine these factors, alongside the possible methods to solve these issues.
First of all, people of all ages, both kids and adults, have a rather busy daily routine nowadays. Students are overloaded with homework that must be handed in within a short period of time, whereas adults are burdened with the responsibility to complete tasks given by their employer, sometimes even having to work overtime. Work life balance is completely lost and additional time to do sports is even tougher to come by. Moreover, people often have an unhealthy preference for food. The popularity of fast food and carbonated drinks are overstated as people find this a quick means to quench their hunger and thirst, in order to continue their work. Even with a significant amount of sports done, fast food and carbonated drinks can still cause detrimental effects to our health, such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. This is due to the harmful saturated fats found in fast food and excessive sugars present in carbonated drinks.
To effectively tackle this problem, government bodies should carry out the necessary initiatives to ensure the physical well-being of its people. The prices of sports facilities must be lowered, thus provoking a profound interest in people to consider buying them. Also, discounts should be offered to anyone who is interested in subscribing to a gym membership. This encourages more people to commit to doing exercises at their local gym more regularly, therefore nurturing a healthy habit. Additionally, regulations on foods must be exercised by the Ministry of Health. It is of paramount importance that the nutrient content of each processed food is monitored, so that people do not consume these harmful products unknowingly. It is also vital that proper procedures are carried out in the kitchen to prepare safe and edible food. For instance, the same cooking oil must not be reused as it could lead to the formation of harmful substances in the food.
In my opinion, the issue of public health is extremely alarming and should not be left unresolved. The neglect of public health may lead to poor work performance, collectively causing the collapse of economic prosperity of a country. Thus after identifying the root causes to this problem, government bodies should collaborate closely with private organizations to promote changes in order to put an end to this worrying trend.
