It is often argued that celebritites are offered too high salaries. While there are opposing viewpoints, I firmly believe that they should be high-paid for several reasons.
On the one hand, the argument that there are excessive sums for celebrites has some merit. Specifically, salaries rarely reflex the importance of people’s job. While many essentials workers such as nurses and teachers make vital contribution to society, celebrities’s activities are not necessary to well-being. For example, nurses work long hours under high presssure to look after the sick and save lives, especially during the Covid 19 pandemic; however, they are frequently underpaid. Therefore, this supports the idea that famous individuals are indeed overpaid.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that celebrities can earn great amounts of money. The first reason is that very few people reach top levels of music, art or sport, which we should reward those that do. Sometimes, they contribute significantly to national image and pride and revenues from their products such as albums and concerts can improve their country economies. For example, BTS, a Korean boyband, spread their country’s culture for their international fans and promote Korea’s economic growth. Moreover, stars cannot have private lives because many reporters follow them at all times and in all places. Therefore, they find it uncomfortable and inconvenient to appear in public. As a result, well-known people should be high-paid for their jobs.
In conclusion, I maintain that celebrities can receive substantial amounts of money. A high salary can be a strong motivation which helps top stars make great effort in their jobs to meet the expectations of their supporters.
