Band 7+: Do you think that the translators' work can be replaced by AI?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this day and age, the technology of AI is developing, and I argue that the translators’ work can be replaced by AI in the near future. My argument is underpinned by a myriad of justifications; however, it is imperative to approach it from two perspectives:the cost as well as the versatility of AI.

To begin with, employing conventional translators entails a substantial financial outlay, whereas AI does not. This is a crucial point, especially considering that the prevalence of poverty has increased. Hence, this suggests the number of individuals who are unable to afford conventional translators is on the rise. However, they can use AI translation gratis. Google Translate and DeepL serve as preeminent illustrations. Their services enable people who have smartphones to engage in conversations with foreigners, and the number of individuals using AI for translation will undoubtedly proliferate.

In addition, AI can translate not only major languages but also minor languages, which is a noteworthy facet, specifically given that there has been a notable surge in the proportion of travelers who visit countries, where minor languages are spoken, in the course of globalization’s progression. However, a critical issue has surfaced at this juncture. The issue is that a large number of interpreters who can translate major languages such as English, Spanish, and Mandarin subsists, yet there are not many people who can translate minor languages. By contrast, AI can translate nearly all languages accurately, irrespective of the number of speakers of languages. Hence, leveraging AI is the most viable solution to communicate with people who speak in minor languages, elucidating that AI is superior to conventional translators.

In conclusion, the two-pronged approach delineated above-namely, the cost as well as the versatility of AI-not only bestows an exquisite comprehension of the subject matter but also reinforces the credibility of my argument. Consequently, it is unequivocally evident that AI will replace the translators’ work.
