Band 5+: Due to the development and rapid expansion of supermarkets in some countries, many small, local businesses are unable to compete. Some people think that the closure of local business will bring about the death of local communities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In most parts of the world expansion of supermarkets affects tiny scale local businesses. Majority of folks believe that this could be the end of local communities. Developments of supermarkets have eased the consumer by providing everything under one roof. However, supermarkets focus more on industrial products rather than authentic commodities from provisional communities.

On the one hand, since sixties, extensions of stores have been rapid throughout various parts of the world. It somehow has comforted the customers offering a wide range of supplies and flexible payment options at reasonable pricing. Increasing its business running around sixty-five thousand stores only in the U.S alone. For instance, Walmart’s global net sales for the fiscal year 2023 is approximately seven hundred billion U.S. dollars. Contributing its higher stakes in global economic growth.

On the other hand, supermarkets are usually present in cities this could only benefit residences of the major cities. Looking at the general motive of markets they prioritized long-lasting goods that one way or some way have adverse impact on health. In the context of the regional public, they always offer organic goods that are fresh in condition as well as products along with artistic values, ethical backgrounds and their cultural presence whether its food, art and numerous more. This signifies the presence of their company in those areas. For instance, In Nepal during the Chhath one of the festivals of the Mithila community where they serve their food, they showcase their arts to the rest of the world which help them to grow and in establishing their cultural importance.

In conclusion, I believe that although supermarkets have eased the customers but they lack in presenting true value of local goods.
