Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 7+: E-books are replacing printed books in many countries. Do the advantages of e-books outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, due to the development of technologies, the use of e-books is becoming popular rather than printed books in many countries. While there are several benefits to use e-books, I believe that the drawbacks, particularly in terms of health concerns and piracy, outweigh the benefits.

One of the benefits of reading e-books is that it provides to save time and money. For example, people can store hundreds of books on their gadgets, and find information easily and quickly by entering keywords relevant to the subject into the search field. Moreover, electronic books are less expensive than printed books since they do not require any production or delivery, and e-books can be downloaded anywhere with an internet connection, allowing readers to purchase new titles without delay. In addition to that, these books are contributing to efforts to tackle climate change. Papers that are used in conventional books are made from wood, and have over the years, led to massive deforestation.

In my view, however, the disadvantages of such reading e-books outweigh the positives. One significant downside of using e-books is eye strain, which can occur from reading on screens for extended periods. For example, many people who works in company, they look at computer screens all day, and reading e-books on mobile devices in the evening can increase discomfort. This, in turn, leads to poor health, especially eye fatigue, and ultimately to decreased vision. Moreover, e-books may have negative consequences for both companies and individuals. Piracy is the number one issue for publishers and writers since it may harm their businesses by stealing their work and distributing it for free on numerous websites. For example, many popular electronic books are freely accessible on public servers, and consumers are more inclined to use free information rather than pay for it, which reduces the revenues of many publishers.

in summary, while e-books have a number of advantages, their negative aspects, particularly the health risks, especially eye strain from prolonged screen use, and the problem of piracy that harms publishers and writers, are of great concern. In my opinion, the disadvantages of e-books outweigh the advantages, especially when considering the long-term effects on health and the book industry.
