Education has become a necessity in society. Even though it has its benefit, it has its own drawbacks. This essay will discuss the challenges and advantages of learning.
To begin with, education has led to technological advancements that make work easier. Having seen the introduction of new materials that make innovation easier, learning specific skills since the introduction of robots that are faster and efficient as compared to human beings. In addition, learning is a pathway to career opportunities. Learners get to acquire the necessary skills making them stand a better chance of getting employed. This is beneficial as they can meet their needs and support their families.
On the contrary, education has its own drawbacks. Firstly, it is costly and not all people can afford to study. Even though some nations offer subsidies to increase its accessibility, a significant portion of population still finds it difficult to cover their tuition fees or some other educational expenses. This in turn causes disparities between the wealthy and disadvantaged people of society. Secondly, adoption of Western countries’ education systems impacted the African culture greatly. This is because such curricula do not take into consideration what the ancient inhabitants valued, rather focus on Westernization. For example, most Africans relied on certain beliefs like the cleansing ritual and use of herbal remedies in sickness but later adapted conventional medicine, a trend they learnt from their colonizers. This has led to erosion of African culture.
In conclusion, it is evident that while learning has its downsides like being expensive and inaccessible to some people as well as contributing to erosion of culture, it has benefits that make it to be an integral part of society. Said benefits outweigh its demerits
