Some people feel that education is a foundation of human right because it is playing a pivotable role in the society. They, therefore, believe that it is supposed to be universal irrespective of individual financial status. While I promote this idea because education is crucial for individuals and nations, free education coverage provided for all is challenging for government because it tend to come up with high expenditure and resources to invest. This essay will explore this controversial topic with some examples. In addition, I will also offer my opinion to present my stance at the end of the essay.
Education helps people to obtain better employment opportunity. Consequently, it is a critical part leading to the economic growth of the nation. For example, in many developed countries, education is free and easy to access for their citizens. They can have a peace of mind on the tuition fee because they do not need to pay for it. Furthermore, students in developed countries can go to any schools nearby their residences, as their convenience, because of the same quality of the education standard and resources, provided by government, are available all over the country.
Nevertheless, free education is still challenging for developing countries, especially least developed countries. The reason is that it needs high investment of a lot of money in education infrastructures such as good schools with high standard, high compensation for high qualified teaches, commendable educational resources. These are challenging for developing countries and least develop countries as they tend to have limited budget based on the economic status. For example, television coverage shows that many people in least developed countries are still struggling with famine and obtaining education might be impossible or very limited for them.
However, thanks to new educational technology which turns education to be more accessible. For instance, during COVID-19 pandemic, online classes through video conferencing application are conducted widespread everywhere in the world. It has been become a new normal practice until today providing free and reachable education for everyone. It is one of the best alternatives for individuals to gain access to education whenever and wherever they would like to regardless of financial circumstances.
In conclusion, regarding my stance, I agree that education is supposed to be universal because everyone needs it for better living standards. Online education is one of the new ways to make it happen and possible for all. It is, however, still needs some contributions from families to support the education expenditure in some countries as governments in developing countries and least developed countries are still facing the difficulties to make the full free coverage of the education for all.
