There are some who claim that employers need to facilitate a 4-week vacation to their workers as it shows to increase their perfomance in jobs. My firm conviction is that this statement is sensible for several key reasons.
One point in favour of holidays is that they have a positive effect on employee’s mental and emotional wellbeing. While working for long hours without any rest, people usually end up with mental breakdowns which leads to inability to cope with difficult and stressful situations. In contrast, with 30-days holiday, workers will free themselves from emotional burnout and recharge their batteries. The study conducted at the Asian company showed that workers felt more productive at work after a month of vacation, while those who worked nonstop suffered from depression and exhaustion.
Having holidays can also contribute to innovative thinking of employees. People can broaden their horizons during the vacations by trying out something totally new for themselves. They can find a new hobby, visit another country, try extreme activities or attend art classes during a break from their work. This may lead to the development of creativity and innovativeness which later on help them in trying different approaches and methods at work.
In addition, having holidays may be used not only for relaxation, but may also work as a reward system for may workers. They will gain motivation and desire to work more in future because they were granted with rest for past one month. Due to this reason, they will have a sense of achievement and work even more to gain even better results. In contrast, employees who do not have holidays may feel unmotivated about their job and career growth. Recent study at the University of Chicago demosntrated that 70% of people wanted to quit their job due to restless working days.
To sum up, I contend that holiday policy is an important factor in jobs because it improves employee’s mental and emotional state, boosting their creative thinking and giving motivation in terms of working.
