Some people think that globalization has brought about opportunities for economies to thrive, but its drawbacks should not be overlooked. I completely agree with this belief due to the reasons explored in this essay.
There is a compelling advantage when national economies are made closer to each other. Nowadays, due to the effects of globalization, airfares become more accessible, language barriers come down, and people have more chances to travel across the world than ever before. This also makes businesses, international companies, and cross-border collaboration become more straightforward that it used to be. They can export their products, import international goods, and send their employees overseas for apprenticeship opportunities. These interactions also help these institutions harness their work quality, workforce’ skills, and eventually the most refined outcomes. From this respect, globalization does not just increase the frequency of travelling abroad. It opens new opportunities for aspiring businesses to widen their customer base, relationships and collaboration.
However, the negative effects of this development are profound but usually ignored. First, it can severely reduce national identity. In cultural intersection, there is definitely a point at which a person feel that their own traditions and heritage become outdated and inferior to others. They may think that their cuisines are less vibrant, apparels are less gorgeous, and their music is just not as interesting. Such comparison often forces people to turn their back at their own values if they do not have enough sense of indentity and pride. Similarly, the easier access to global travel can also stimulate people to take shorter trips abroad. When people travel just for trivial purpose and then return, simply because the options are available, they may put more unnecessary strain on the environment, both the local sites and destinations. In that sense, globalization can have the side effects. They do not only make people less confident in their own cultural values but also encourage excessive travel, which may be trivial but the cost is paid for by the eco-systems.
In conclusion, globalization is beneficial to economies as it opens up more chances, relationships, and a diverse market. However, this development comes at a cost which should not be ignored, especially in terms of national indentity and the environmental costs.
