Band 5: Face-to-face meetings with people are much more effective than meetings held on the telephone or via the Internet. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay)

It is widely contended that benefits of real life sessions outweigh those done through electronic means. I strongly disagree with this statement. In my opinion it hardly affects the purpose of the meeting, instead giving more ways for the explanation by sharing every point through audio and video. Furthermore, in this essay I will suggest some reasons for my disagreement.

Firstly, in today’s modern world everyone has access to technology. This has made our lives easy in a way that we can contact anyone and present our point of view from anywhere around the world. This has reduced the need to travel and meet others for official purposes. Meetings, conferences and seminars are mostly held online so that everyone can participate despite distance and time. For instance, a Pakistani Ielts student can attend an online session from an English tutor from the UK by just sitting at their homes and learning English.

In the second part of my argument, I would like to describe the applications which could be used for meeting purposes. These softwares have easy usage and are accessible to everyone. Presentations, pictures and all documents can be shared through them which tends to lessen the need of in person meetings for details of the topic. Google meet and Zoom are some good examples, which are used for online official talks. One can just sit in front of the computer and attend the discussion.

It is concluded that face to face chats can be replaced by internet usage without the decrease in its effectiveness. However, technology saves time and money for travelling with its ability to explain every aspect of the meeting visually.
