Band 7+: Fast fashion has become increasingly popular, leading to a large amount of textile waste. What problems are associated with fast fashion industry, and what solutions can consumers and manufacturers adopt to address these problems?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s society, we are confronted with issues related to fast fashion, particularly concerning labor practices and design. Many environmental and social problems are similarly associated with this concept. Fast fashion has integrated into our lives more intensively than ever. This essay will explore the challenges posed by this modern innovation, suggest possible solutions, and provide an example.

Firstly, fast fashion implies that most clothing and trends will become unfashionable within 5 to 6 months. Designers are tasked with creating new collections every season to keep up with demand. People continue to buy fashionable items to stay on trend, often out of necessity. As a result, their wardrobes quickly become outdated. For instance, Apple produces a variety of advanced technologies, particularly the iPhone, which has gained popularity over the years. Each season, the company strives to create more powerful technology and incorporate new updates. While this approach is financially lucrative and innovative, not all updates significantly enhance functionality. Furthermore, this creates intense competition for other tech companies like Samsung, Oppo, and Redmi. Consumers often prefer luxury phones over those that are simply comfortable and easy to use.

Despite these challenges, solutions are readily available. People need to value high-quality and sustainable items. It may sound surprising, but the fashion industry should focus on promoting long-lasting clothing that remains in good condition. For example, in 2018, a campaign by Second Hand focused on selling unfashionable clothes, and surprisingly, many people purchased these items out of necessity.

In conclusion, fast fashion will continue to thrive as long as individuals can appreciate the value of quality items. I firmly believe that this realization will shape our future.
