Band 7+: Finding job satisfaction is considered to be a luxury in many developing countries. Why do you think that is? Do you think job satisfaction is important?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Looking for jobs that suffice the aspirations of people in developing countries has proven to be hard. While the underlying causes are complex, two factors, including poverty and excessive competitiveness, may have played the key roles in contributing to this phenomenon, and, in my view, job satisfaction is of paramount significance in terms of a nation’s long-term economic development.

To begin with, poverty driven by lacking resources and technological advancements in developing areas has left a majortiy of working population with no better choice. For example, low-quality, labor-intensive factory positions, with repetitive, uninpiring assembly line routines, are considered “high-paying” jobs compared to farming back in their hometowns. Additionally, developing countries are ususally struggling to upgrade their traditional industries let alone creating job vacancies, making their labor markets highly competitive. As a result, that being able to secure any job is better than being jobless becomes the priority for many.

Nevertheless, disregarding the element of job satisfaction simply in the pursuit of employment can be a major issue not only for individuals but the development of a country’s economy as a whole. First, if workers are not interested what they do as professions or see little prospect of career progression, the productivity is expected to be low and turnover rates high. This, in turn, would hamper the growth of the business, making it lose a competitive edge and face potential downsizing. Secondly, from a national perspective, low job satisfaction, be it driven by harsh workplace environments or underemployment, would impede a nation’s innovation and creativity, adversely affecting its economic growth.

In conclusion, despite various reasons causing job dissatisfiction, the two prominent factors, poverty and excessive competitiveness, may lie at the core of the issue. While it seems to only be relevent to personal feelings under the circumstance, unsatisfactory workplaces can indeed have long-term detrimental effects on the business and the country’s overall economy. In this contex, ensuring laborforce’s job satisfaction is substantially critical.
