It is widely argued that children ought to learn foreign language at elementary schools, while others believe that they should learn a second language at secondary level. I completely agree with this notion that students should learn a foreign language at primary level because it can improve confidence and provide better employment opportunities.
One of the main reasons I support learning foreign language at primary level is that it would build more confidence in students. Learning a new language require a lot of practice and sometimes people might get frustrated because they have to learn it from a beginner level to the advanced one. If children start learning another language at a very young age, they would speak more efficiently and fluently by the time they reach secondary schools because of having adequate practice. In this technological era, it may help them in future to interact and communicate with foreigners, and make friends. For example, government should launch linguistics programmes at primary schools, which could develop interest in children.
Another reason is that it would improve employment prospects because many multi-national companies prefer employees who have better communication skills and know different languages. These companies have foreign clients and even invest in foreign projects. As a result, they need employees who could work as a mediator among them and in return they offer their employees rewarding salaries. For example, first language in Canada’s some provinces is French so these provinces hire employees around the world who can speak French and give high salaries.
To sum up, I believe that children should start learning foreign language at an early age at school because this would help them build their confidence by speaking fluently and provide better employment prospects.
