Media outlets often detailed coverage of crimes on TV and in newspapers. Some people suggest that reporting crimes should be restricted because it causes social drawbacks. while I partially agree that presenting crime content can lead to imitation, I believe that it plays a crucial role in keeping the public cautious about dangerous possibilities
One of the most obvious drawback of demonstrating crimes is that it it can cause people to imitate dangerous behaviors , especially young people. That is to say, the excessive presenting news on social media or papers poses a prospect in adolescents to be exposed to violent content. Additionally, some television news channels does not have ethics in delivering news as they show weapons that are used by criminals without censored, causing more inspiration in imitation. For example, incidents of school violence in some countries have reportedly increased after extensive coverage of similar content.
By contrast, delivering violent news is that people in public can stay alert to live in society, and it essential in raising public awareness. For example, warning about cybercrimes such as phishing or online fraud, helps people take preventive measures and protect themselves from becoming victims. In addition, media outlets can warn people to avoid risky locations that might cause adverse circumstances such as many news televisions inform people do not to across a bridge at late night because there are many homeless or even facing pervert people may lead to worsened events
In conclusion, although detailed descriptions of crimes in media can lead to problems like copycat crimes, restricting coverage is not practical, because it prevents people to not commiting adverse incidents such as online fraud. So the primary solution that governments and media organizations can do is promoting responsible journalism.
