While investing money on railways show several benefits, it would be impractical to implement it efficiently.
Look on the bright side, moving by train is usually faster than normal type of transportation. So, by demanding government to invest money on railways rather than roads, it helps individuals commute from different regions to the desired destination quickly. With the increase use of public transportation like train, it also reduces the usage of personal transportation which leads to less industrial garbage and the reduction of carbon emissions that also contribute to the world goal to reduces the green house effect.
However, this movement comes with various drawbacks that need to be considered carefully before it get implemented. Because moving by train is usually more expensive than vehicles moving on road, this specific reason prevents people with limited budget can use this type of transportation. Not only so, by design all the public transportation including train often have a fixed schedule, these transportations only run after a period of time so it would be less convenient than using personal transportation that moving on roads. Additionally, railways can only be used by one vehicle at a time which will not scale well when the demand is high, especially in the rush hour. Furthermore, it only supports trains that design specifically to run on this type of road which limit the type of vehicle that can use it.
As discussed in this essay, the drawbacks caused by it is greater than the benefit it gains. However, governments can still choose to build the railways in regions that connect rural regions to the center of the city to help individuals commute to work faster.
