Band 8+: Government should spend more money on medical research to protect citizens’ health rather than on protecting the environment. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s world, some argue that government funds should prioritize medical research over environmental preservation to ensure people’s health. However, I believe that both areas should receive equal funding for the following reasons.

Spending more money on medical research can have several benefits. Initially, this can help with improving public health, because medical research can lead to the development of new treatments, vaccines, and cures for diseases, improving overall health outcomes and reducing mortality rates. In addition, investments in medical research can help increase life expectancy by preventing or treating chronic diseases in more effective ways. Finally, there is preparedness to quickly prevent pandemics. Increased funding for medical research can improve the ability to respond effectively to public health emergencies such as pandemics by developing vaccines and treatments more quickly.

Moreover, Spending more money on protecting the environment also has numerous benefits. Firstly, it also affects health. A clean environment means a reduction in the incidence of diseases caused by pollution, which improves the overall well-being of the population. Additionally, this may help to increase in quality of life. Access to clean air, water, and green spaces enhances the quality of life, providing recreational opportunities and mental health benefits. Also, environmental protection ensures that future generations can enjoy a healthy and viable planet, supporting long-term economic and social stability.

To sum up, both medical research and environmental protection are vital, and governments need to find a balance to ensure the well-being of their populations and the planet.
