Band 7+: Government should spend more money on medical research to protect citizens’ health rather than on protecting the environment. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a common view that the government should spend more money on medical studies preserving residents’ health rather than conserving the environment. From my perspective, I partly agree with this opinion, as these two elements directly affect human beings.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why funding for medical research is incredibly crucial. For a start, healthcare research can help find new treatments and cures for diseases. This means that people can leave healthier and longer. For instance, it can be very beneficial for chronic diseases such as cancer. Moreover, medical science can stimulate economic growth by creating jobs, reducing healthcare costs, and increasing work efficiency through better health. Healthy people can work better and longer, which helps the country grow economically.

On the other hand, the health of the people should be the priority of the authorities, but I think they should spend an equal amount of money on the conversion of the environment. First and foremost, nature protection is completely vital because it has a direct impact on people’s health levels. Pollution and degradation are major causes of health issues and diseases. For example, preventing water pollution can help to reduce infections associated with bacteria. Furthermore, taking care of nature ensures that future generations have clean air and water. If the government spends less money on the environment and doesn’t protect nature now, they will suffer from health problems and a lack of natural resources.

In conclusion, the government should allocate money equally for health research and the environment, as both of these factors play a significant role in overall well-being.
