Governments nowadays are asking businesses to move from urban area to rural areas. What are the benefits and disadvantages of this trend?
The relocation of businesses from urban areas to the countryside is a growing trend, encouraged by governments. Although this trend brings some drawbacks, I am convinced that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
One of the downsides associated with rural areas is the lack of suitable basic infrastructures, creating challenges for workers. Indeed, businesses locating in the countryside face limited access to robust infrastructures readily available in urban centers, such as reliable transportation, high-speed internet, and advanced utilities. For instance, without adequate public transportation in their vicinity, employees may be compelled to commute using their private cars daily, incurring significant costs and fatigue. This situation can adversely impact job satisfaction and ultimately result in high employee turnover.
As well as a negative, this approach brings more advantages. The first benefit is concerned with providing job opportunities for talented individuals residing in the villages. In other words, the influx of new businesses can provide rural dwellers with more opportunities to find lucrative jobs close to their homes. Cost-saving, moreover, is another advantage of this trend. Indeed, operating a new business in the countryside requires lower costs related to the office space, utilities, and taxes. As a result, people can run their businesses at a more reasonable price.
To conclude, despite the insufficient infrastructure in rural areas, I am convinced that the establishment of new industries in rural regions brings more benefits, such as providing job opportunities for locals and saving a considerable budget for employers.
