Family-run businesses are common in many parts of the world, and while some believed that this is the successful way to pursue a career as a family, others may claim that it also have some potential drawbacks that may lead to conflicts between family members. However, in my opinion, whereas family business can indeed achieve success under certain circumstances, they may also face issues that can affect the business in the long way.
One of the main benefits of a family-owned businesses is that they’re more sustainable then other businesses. They can pass the businesses on to the upcoming generations to keep the business alive without any hiatus in between. For instance, very famous car companies like Ford and Toyota are family businesses and they’re still thriving till this day. Moreover, since the family members already shared a strong bond, the working environment would be more lively and harmonious rather than stressful and tiring.
On the contrary, it is inevitable that the family-run businesses may also struggle to reach their highest potential due to some drawbacks. One major concern is the lack of boundaries between the personal and professional relationships. This will in trun causes disagreements and arguements between relatives which can even lead to bigger turn of events such as bankrupt. Subsequently, the conflict may damage not only the family bonds but also the business outcomes. In addition, lack of professional experience in marketing and management skills may also poeses as a challenge in family-owned companies.
To sum up, while family-owned enterprises can thrive due to trust and strong commitment among family members, the personal conflicts according to legacy and family heirloom ,and limited professionalism can hinder their success.
