Firstly, in general, science is considered to be the subject of bright and meritorious students and there are too much study pressure on science related subjects. After tremendous school and college life many students try to avoid the laborious pressure in the university level. In addition, in developing countries, like Bangladesh there are very limited opportunity for the admission in universities for science based students compared to other fields like arts. In Bangladesh, there are more than fifty public universities and among them more than fifty percent seat are reserved for arts students and remaining for the other fields including science.
Furthermore, job opportunities are very limited for the science students. In many countries, employment scope for science students are limited to doctors and engineers. Beside this they don’t have any specific reservation in the government cadre service which is very prestigious in the society as well as the opportunity to practice civil power. As non-science students are spent less time on their academic study, they have more time to preparation for their job during student life.
Lack of interest on studying science in the university level has a number of negative impacts on society as well as for country. Firstly, without science its impossible to develop a nation and most of the development work need to be done by the foreign countries. As a result, the nation loss in both ways by losing the money to other country and also the scientist who have the capability of doing advanced scientific research but not having the infrastructure in his or her own country, so they need to leave the country for better opportunities.
To conclude, too much study pressure and the lack of job opportunity are the primary reasons for not liking the science related subjects at university level and it has greater negative impacts on society.
