In many regions, a majority of young adults prefer to live independently or residing together with friends compared to living with their family members. This essay will discuss both merits and drawbacks of this reality, followed by concrete reasonings as to why I believe that it is best for them to live independently or co-habit with friends under certain conditions.
In recent years, there has been a popular metaphor circulating the media called “The Strawberry Generation”, which refers to Gen Z as mentally unprepared when they are forced to face life obstacles along with the tendency to give up easily. However, residing a home on their own or with a few friends, allows them the chance to learn valuable life lessons such as mental resilience and independence, which forces them to adapt instead of making excuses or running away. Additionally, independence is a big part of self-discovery, hence why co-habiting with friends or residing a house alone could be beneficial for youthful people nowadays.
On the other hand, we often forget that our family won’t live for eternity. Living with our family gives us the chance form stronger bonds with one another. Furthermore, plenty of adults have said that they regret taking the time they have left with their family for granted and wished that they would have spent their time more wisely when they still had the chance. To prevent us from falling in the same trap, we can learn from them and start small, like having with occassional calls during our leisure time to catch up.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that young adults nowadays should pursue the chance to live alone or accompanied with close friends. Nevertheless, we still need to remember of our loved ones and spend our time with them. This way, it is possible for us to form a balance between family and independence.
