Band 6+: In many countries, people do not recycle waste materials, such as bottles and newspaper. What are the reasons for this? What could be done to solve this problem.

In the modern world, there are still some countries, whose citizens do not recycle waste items. Two main reasons for this situation are a lack of knowledge and inconvenience process of recycling. To solve these problems, government should influence people by explaining the importance of recycling and to make simple this process.

One key reason for low recyling rates is a knowladge gap among people. Many people often face some difficulties with recycling process and they may have no idea about which products are recyclable. Moreover, some people do not realize how their efforts contribute to environment. Another contributing factor is the complicated procedure of recycling. Many of us may think that waste disposal is a kind of tedious chore. For example, we can see separate waste bins for specialized different kind of waste such as plastic, glass or paper at the street. It seems like very difficult task to figure out which bin is designed for what kind of waste. As a result, people often reject sorting and recycling waste materials.

However, government needs to address these problems in a fast and efficient way. Firstly, people should know some basic knowledge about recylcing. For accomplishing this, the government should launch social activities or programs explaining the seriousness of recycling and use feedback signs which inform people about the significance of it. It leads to people know about their efforts genuinely make a difference. Another important solution is that making the process more simply. They should transform recycling from a daunting task into a smooth everyday task. For instance, the government should provide specially designed lids such as a narrow slit for paper or round for bottle which increase rate of recycling. Consequently, it shows that simple and creative design choices make the process more convenient.

Taking everything into account, some people do not care about the environment due to unawareness of the situation or for the complex task. These problems can be fixed if the government starts to give more information to citizens and to make simple the process.
