It can be observed that the number of imported food has increased all around the world nowadays, leading many native people to be fond of them rather than local grown food. I think it is an optimistic trend because although this trend causes many drawbacks, the benefits it offers are far more significant.
Admittedly, local people prefer eating foreign food could bring some negative implications. One of them is that the price of food produced in other regions is far more expensive than locally grown produce. This is because there are alot of elements including in this cost such as: cost of the product, transporting cost and tax. With some kinds of overseas items, the cost of transporting is even higher than the cost of the product. As a consequence, not many people can afford to buy them and cost of living also increases accordingly. Another is the loss of local culture. Although this is believed as a natural part of globalization, it erodes the new generation’s understanding of their own food tradition and leads to the loss of many specialty dishes.
However, notwithstanding the aforementioned merits, eating a wider range of food that can not be grown in their place is by far essential advantages, including the increased diversity of food provides consumers with more options and enhances the overall economy. Regarding the former, native people can experience various high quality foods that can not be grown in their country to enrich daily lìfe. Furthermore, it also improves their knowledge of the outside world. Concerning the latter, exporting food to countries that can not grow them is a best way to expand the market and also strengthen the relationship with the international.
In conclusion, consuming foreign food is in trend these days. Even though this movement brings about many consequences, in terms of international integration in recent years, its benefits carry more weight.
