As a human being, it is part of life to take leave from one’s job at a certain age. These days, there are nations that are increasing the retirement age. In this essay, I will explain both the merits and demerits of this topic.
Perhaps the main reason for increasing the number of days in work life is to share the experience of a person who has spent a long time in his or her job. An experienced person leads the company with maximum output, which usually takes a fresher a long time and may prevent them from providing proper service. It makes the organization sound and healthy with many more benefits, such as financial and reputational benefits. Moreover, many countries in the world have fewer people than the required number of workers. For instance, in Canada, many provinces are facing a shortage of skilled people due to a lack of population. Thus, they need more time from current skilled workers.
Increasing work life not only has pros but also raises many cons. Many countries are facing massive challenges of unemployment. Because of this, they face many challenges in placing young and fresh graduates in jobs. For example, a country like Bangladesh, which is densely populated with a huge number of people, always faces challenges ensuring jobs for new graduates. Furthermore, long working hours are not suggested by research. They lead to boredom, which makes it impossible to achieve expected results.
In conclusion, it can be said that, although there are many advantages to increasing the work period for some countries, we also need to consider those facing unemployment problems. Thus, it depends on the country whether it can adopt this properly.
