In many part of the world, traditional customs and values are gradually disappearing as societies become more mordern and globalised. In my opinion, although societies should be open to change, preserving cultural traditions remains essential.
On the one hand, there are understandable reasons for concern. As a globalisation leads to spread of international lifestyles, trends and brands, younger generations who has many energetic and want to explore many cultural may gradually obliterate national cultures and stop practising customs. This is not only loss of cultural identity but aslo weaken family and community bonds that traditional festivals used to strengthen. For example, nowadays, in Viet Nam, many young people follow Korean or American trends, food, styles or music like Pop music, fast food,… more closely than local cuisine, folk music or traditional festivals which raise generation gap between elderly and younger people over customs.
On the other hand, the decline of certain traditions can be seen as a natural consequence of social development. This change can bring clear benefits. International connections tend to make people open-mindedness and tolerance. It aslo creates many economic advantages. Increased contact between coustries attracts tourism, investment promoting heritage and offering job opportunities for local residents. For instance, many students who study abroad come back to Viet Nam and use their knowledge to develop local tradition and create tourist destination from their local. It is not only improve national culture but also improve living standards.
In conclusion, some people think traditional customs and values should be kept, while others believe that changes are good for society. In my opinion, we should keep good traditions but also accept new ideas.
