In many nations, traditional dishes are being replaced by international junk food. While some people love the idea of having fast food instead of local ones due to its convenience and unusual taste, I believe that traditional food is a better option to stay healthy and preserve the country’s unique culture.
On the one hand, junk food is convenient since it can be served at any time and doesn’t take much time to prepare. Teenagers or even office workers love this since they don’t have enough free time during their breaks to go home and make their own meals, thus junk food would be a reasonable alternative. For example, a nine-to-five employee would certainly choose chicken wings over driving home and then spend half an hour making egg-fried rice. Another reason for fast food’s popularity is its strange taste compared to local food. For instance, when a monk has fries with cola for the first time, his expression would be quite an exotic, unprecedented one.
On the other hand, traditional food is a better choice for public health. Since fast food contains too much saturated fat, excessive consumption might lead to diseases related to our hearts. Recent research has shown that obesity has become an urgent issue in developing countries since the introduction of fast food chains in these countries. Moreover, local food is an irreplaceable part of any culture. We can not imagine a Vietnam without banh mi or pho since these dishes are a part of their identity.
In conclusion, while fast food offers us convenience and an unusual experience, we should refrain from consuming it too much for both out health and our culture.
