People have different views about whether processed foods or conventional ones would be more advantageous for people. In my opnion, I lean towards the view that traditional foods offer more benefits in the long run.
On the one hand, there are several reasons why refined food options have been increasingly popular in many countries recently. First, in comparison with other food types, fast foods are incredibly convenient for peole, especially for those leading a hectic life. This is because this food form is usually made as ready-to-eat meals which allow consumers to easily take them away or be served at the restaurants. Therefore, they can be saved from the hassles of long-hour prepartions and cleaning up. As a result, they can have more time for other aspects of life such as personal growth or family bonding. Another striking upside of processed dishes is their appetising flavors and eye-catching appearance. Fast foods such as crispy fried chicken or fragant burgers with mouth-watering decorations could easily satisfy eaters’ cravings. Consequently, this would result in the increasing popularity of international processed foods.
On the other hand, despite the aforementioned arguments, I am of the opinion that traditional cuisine is more beneficial for human health and tradition. Scientifically, fast foods, which are high in saturated fat, calories, and preservatives, have been proven to be detrimental to human body as the constant intake of these substances is the main culprit for many serious ailments such as obesity or cardiovascular diseases. Traditional dishes, by contrast, are often cooked from fresh local ingredients with a relatively smaller quantity of preservatives. Thus, they are generally regarded to be heathier food choices. For example, Pho, which is a renowned traditional Vietnamese dish, comprises a great deal of vegetable and is typically served with fresh ingredients. Hence, it has been prevalent among Vietnamese people as not only a nutritious but also a healthy food choice. What is more, local foods represent for a country’s tradition since local dishes often illustrate the distinct eating customs and locally-specialized ingredients, which could pull in travelers from overseas. This would financially promote the development of tourism and associated services and in the long term, traditional cuisine heritage could have more opportunities to be conserved.
In conclusion, although international junk foods have been more and more favoured worldwide due to their convenience and tastes. I firmly hold the view that traditional options could be more beneficial for people’s physical well-being and tradition preservation.
