Traffic congestion and poor infrastructure are common issues in large urban areas. This tendency has certain causes; however, there are also a number of steps that can be taken to reverse this propensity.
One reason for this is the lack of investment or funding for infrastructure. In other words, without proper financial support, it is difficult to build and maintain essential facilities such as roads, public transport, and buildings’ infrastructure. Another factor leading to be the problem of overcrowding in cities. Many people migrate from the hinterland and settle in urban areas in search of better job opportunities , putting a strain on amenities, housing, and above all, transport capacity. This means that an already stretched system is often pushed to a critical point. This situation may eventually lead cancellations and breakdowns in the technology used, especially in situations of urban sprawl such as in Latin America.
As far as the solutions are concerned, one way to tackle this would be to encourage investment in better infrastructure, for example through subsidies or public-private partnerships as was tried successfully in Germany during the 1990’s. This enhances the network and fosters a sense of civic pride. Another method that the government should ensure job opportunities in the suburban areas. This remedy would hopefully prevent people from moving to other conurbations, and they would not experience any feelings of homesickness.
In conclusion, as discussed above, there are certain reasons why lack of investments and overcrowding are the key factors behind congestion and poor infrastructure. Possible solutions would be involve better funding and creating better job opportunities.Hopefully, concerned authorities will consider applying these methods.
